Summary

Through the publication in 2004 of the new species Physarum squamosum Flatau & Schirmer (Physaraceae, Myxomycetes, Eumycetozoa) two Belgian collections could finally be identified. The first collection dated from November 1994 and was made in Zoerselbos (Zoersel, Province of Antwerp) on dead bramble stem (Rubus sp.). The second one was made in November 1999 in Palingbeek (Zillebeke, Province of West Flanders) from stacked logs of broadleaf trees (Sterbeeckia 20, 2001).

A search for Myxomycetes in March 2005 during snowmelt on the highest point (alt. 625 m) of Belgium, Baraque Fraiture (Natuurparkcentrum Botrange, Robertville, Prov. Luik), resulted in the first record of Lepidoderma tigrinum (Schrad.) Rostaf. (Didymiaceae, Myxomycetes) in Belgium. A large population covered an area of a few square meters of the pine forest floor. Fruiting bodies were found primarily on living mosses, but also on dead stubs, pine needles and soil.

This article comprises descriptions, colour drawings and photographs of the fruiting bodies and colour drawings of the microscopic features of Belgian collections of these species.

Inleiding

In 1994 en 1999 werden respectievelijk in het Zoerselbos te Zoersel (Prov. Antwerpen) op dode braamstengel en in de Palingbeek te Zillebeke (Prov. West-Vlaanderen) op gestapelde loofhoutstammetjes gelijkaardige collecties gevonden van telkens een klein aantal, verspreidstaande vruchtlichamen die behoren tot het genus Physarum Pers. Omwille van de zeer typische structuur van het peridium, dat afwijkt van alle gekende Physarum-soorten, werden de exsiccaten naamloos bewaard. Tot de publicatie van de soort Physarum squamosum Flatau & Schirmer in 2004.

In maart 2005 werd een zoektocht naar Myxomyceten gedaan op het hoogste punt van België, Baraque Fraiture na bij het Natuurparkcentrum Botrange (Robertville, Prov. Luik). Een maand eerder was er in deze streek een sneeuwlaag van maximaal 50 cm dikte gevallen en op het ogenblik van de veldtocht was deze reeds tot op enkele plekken na weggesmolten. Lepidoderma tigrinum (Schrad.) Rostaf., nieuw voor België, werd op één plaats massaal gevonden.
