MYCENA RHENANA VERSUS MYCENA CECIDIOPHILA

Leo Noten & Lucrèse Vannieuwerburgh

Summary

A thorough study of several collections of both Mycena cecidiophila and Mycena rhenana revealed that none of the distinctive

characters is exclusively connected to either one of the species. This led to the conclusion that both species are conspecific and

that only one can remain: Mycena rhenana. It also implied that this species not only grows on Alnus glutinosa, but also on

various other substrates. A full description, as well as microscopical drawings and photographs, are given.
